A tongue-tie, also known as ankyloglossia, occurs when the small band of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth (the lingual frenulum) is too short or tight. This can restrict tongue movement and, in some patients, contribute to difficulties with breastfeeding, speech, eating, or oral function.
